Plasma Fibroblast Treatment

Plasma fibroblast treatment is an aesthetic procedure that some dermatologic healthcare providers can offer to tighten and improve the skin as an alternative to laser, injections and surgical treatments.

It should be noted that this therapy is a quite new method for the face and cosmetic treatment. Please continue to read in order to learn how this procedure functions and how much it makes you look younger.

What is plasma fibroblast treatment?

Plasma fibroblast treatment targets fibroblasts. These are the cells producing collagen and protein in dermis which is the skin layer below the epidermis forming the true skin.

Fibroblasts plays a crucial role in protecting skin tightness and brightness as well as helping to recover the skin scars.Plasma fibroblast treatment uses a pencil-like device discharging high-frequency electric current to small areas of skin.

Plasma tip does not directly touch the skin, it leaves a current targeted right on the skin instead. Hot current forms small holes or micro scars on this upper layer of skin.

Moreover, according to a reputable article published in 2019, thermal deterioration or heat damage caused from plasma fibroblast treatments helps the following:

  • It breaks the proteins on skin

  • It supports tissue rejuvenation

  • It stimulates fibroblast activity

  • It causes tissue contraction and tightens the skin as a result.

In addition, it must be noted that some dermatological healthcare providers may name this approach as the plasma skin rejuvenation.

What are the benefits of plasma fibroblast treatment?

Plasma fibroblast treatment is a non-surgical treatment that can be used to treat following situations:

  • Eyelid lift / tightening

  • Wrinkle reduction

  • Neck tightening

  • Reduction of wrinkles on upper lip

  • Elimination of cracks and scars

Cosmetologists may also use plasma fibroblast treatment as an alternative to lip fillings in order to make the lips look bigger.

Does it work?

Plasma fibroblast treatment may ensure these if performed in a safe and controlled environment:

  • Rejuvenation of skin tissue

  • Mild to moderate skin tightening

  • Skin face contour change at certain degree

According to a reputable medicine magazine in 2014, effects are expected to stimulate fibroblast production up to 1 year after the treatment.

Therefore, there is not much study about plasma fibroblast treatment since it is a relatively new aesthetic procedure.

In a small study carried out in 2007, plasma fibroblast therapies were used on eight participants.

Whole face treatment was applied to each participant once in 3 weeks. According to the result  of study, 37% reduction in face wrinkles and 68% recovery in general face appearance have been reported by the patients.

How is the procedure performed?

The procedure may vary slightly depending on where you are applying the treatment, but the basic steps usually include:

Cleansing the skin and applying a topical anesthetic (numbing) cream. You may need to wait about 30 minutes for the anesthetic cream to take effect. Treating the specified skin area with a plasma pen.

The pen will create small micro currents causing crust-like spots on the skin. A professional will remove the anesthetic cream and apply a cooling gel in order to minimize tangling and burning sense.

The procedure usually lasts 30 to 60 minutes.

After the procedure is complete, you can expect the small spots to scab and fall off after about 1 week. It should look tighter and firmer as your skin heals in the next few weeks.

After all, some people may benefit from one session of treatment, while others may need at least three sessions to see the result.

Who is the ideal candidate for this procedure?

The best candidates for this procedure are those who have mild to moderate skin wrinkles.

You should not undergo fibroblast treatment in the following situations:

  • Breastfeeding and pregnant women

  • If you are allergic to topical anesthetic preparations

  • Individuals who are likely to become infected in the treatment area

In addition, if you have received keloid or hypertrophic scarring treatment, it is recommended that you approach plasma fibroblast therapy with caution.

It is important to consult to a healthcare professional prior to the procedure to discuss your treatment goals and any concerns you may have placed on your

Is it safe or is there any side effect?

It is very important that the healthcare professional performing the procedure sets realistic goals with you. Although plasma fibroblast therapy can offer results, it is unlikely to be as dramatic as a surgical procedure.

Moreover, the procedure does not have a definite side effect. But the following may be considered as side effects:

  • Rash

  • Swelling

  • Mild hypopigmentation (mild spots)

  • Mild hyperpigmentation (dark spots)

  • Peeling and crusting of the skin

It must be stated that plasma fibroblast treatment is not legal everywhere around the world. For example, Canada does not allow plasma pens to be used for cosmetic purposes.

How much does it cost?

Pricing for fibroblast, just like other more sophisticated treatments, depends mainly on the qualifications of the provider you choose and the location of the clinic.

However, it is certain that fibroblast pricing is much more affordable than surgery.

For example, one of the most preferential areas for treatment is the eyelids. Eyelid surgery charges a few thousand dollars with a few weeks of recovery. In comparison, the treatment of a fibroblast skin tightening on the eyelids is about a few hundred dollars. (may be even less with campaigns).

Another way to evaluate the cost of fibroblast wrinkle treatment is to compare with injectable filling materials which are commonly used to rejuvenate the skin and reduce wrinkles.

The cost of an under eye filling material is between a few hundred and a few thousand dollars, the cost varies greatly depending on the provider you choose. At first glance, fillers appear to be a relatively acceptable option together with Fibroblast because there is minimal recovery time except for possible mild bruising and swelling. However, Fibroblast Plasma Lifting is a permanent solution, whereas injectable fillers appear as a temporary solution.

After deciding the fibroblast treatment, you will not need any other treatment until natural aging process takes place on your skin. Considering this situation, we can quickly realize that spending money on injectable fillers every 6 months or 1 year will reach a tremendous amount over time. Therefore, fibroblast procedure is again a better alternative and a more cost-conscious solution.

Frequently Asked Questions about Fibroblast Treatment

What does the treatment include?

When activated, the machine generates plasma flash that goes from the tip of the tool to the treated area. The tool itself never touches the skin, but the plasma flash creates a small spot on contact.

Other spots are applied by creating a symmetrical grid over the treatment area. This actually causes the skin fibers to tighten. It is a non-invasive treatment, does not require any cut or stitches on the skin and does not cause unnecessary damage to surrounding tissues.

Does it hurt?

Fibroblast is a non-surgical treatment without any pain or discomfort declared by the patients. Topical cream is applied on the anesthetized treatment area.

Which areas can be treated with fibroblast plasma?

Fibroblast plasma can be used for many different skin diseases. Eyelid tightening, body rejuvenation, acne treatment, scar revision, tattoo removal and crack treatment.

If you suffer from any of above situations but hesitate about traditional surgical procedures, non-invasive fibroblast plasma treatment may be the correct solution for you.

What results should I expect?

After the procedure, your eyelids and under eyes will look much smoother, and the wrinkled skin will be clearly improved; it will make your eyelids feel lighter.

What happens after the treatment?

You can resume your life normally, but it is very important for you to follow our aftercare recommendations. Carbon crusts cannot be scratched or removed. Skin is dried with a clean, lint-free cloth. The healing skin should be protected from direct sunlight by using SPF50 cream. Sports, swimming and sauna are not allowed until the crusts fall off.

What are possible side effects?

Fibroblast plasma is a very safe procedure and side effects are rare, but there may be infection, scar and temporary changes on the skin pigmentation.

Carbon crusts, small superficial spots that forms directly on the skin, are part of the normal healing process and they do not pose threat when properly treated after cream and they fall off 5-7 days after treatment. It is expected to see mild swelling within the first 3 days and it completely disappears until the 5th day.
