Skin Rejuvenation and Resurfacing

Skin Rejuvenation Skin resurfacing treatments help restore younger and more beautiful skin by removing the most damaged outer layers of the skin to reveal healthier looking skin underneath and promote new, healthy skin cell growth.

What skin concerns can micro needle treat?

Over a period of time, the outer layers of our skin begin to show abrasion and corrosion caused by environmental factors such as aging, injury, wrinkles, scars, age spots, and discoloration. Skin resurfacing treatments help reverse these signs of aging and stress, helping you look younger and even healthier. Cosmetic surgeons use a variety of techniques for skin resurfacing to address numerous skin concerns. Let's take a closer look at them one by one:

First of all, who should perform skin resurfacing treatments?

Turkey has a literally hundreds of different skin resurfacing treatments and they market them under their own brands. While most of these are excellent technologies, it is important to remember that the component of cosmetic medicine that has the greatest impact on your results is your provider. This applies to non-surgical skin resurfacing treatments as well as cosmetic surgery. Some skin resurfacing treatments should only be performed by a board-certified cosmetic surgeon. These include deep chemical peels and some ablative laser treatments. Other treatments such as micro needling, light peeling, and microdermabrasion can be performed safely and effectively by a highly trained registered nurse or licensed aesthetician. The competencies required to perform skin resurfacing treatments differ from treatment to treatment, so you should always get your treatment under the supervision of a licensed, expert dermatologist who is highly experienced in medical skin care. Whenever you consult your potential dermatologist, ask him how many times he has performed the specific treatments you are considering. Also, ask your dermatologist about your skin type and experience working with patients who have similar concerns. This is important for your safety and it ensures that the treatments you receive are effective in achieving your goals.

Laser skin resurfacing treatments

Lasers use high concentrations of light energy beams to improve skin tone, texture and appearance. How does laser skin resurfacing rejuvenate my skin? Can minimize fine lines or wrinkles Can treat brown spots, redness or discoloration for more balanced skin tone Can tighten the skin and stimulate collagen production Can remove acne and surgical scars Can remove undesired facial or body hair

Ablative lasers

Ablative lasers remove the outer layers of the skin and encourage new skin to heal in place. How deep the laser penetrates depends on the wavelength of the light; your cosmetic surgeon will determine the best laser application for you based on your skin type, your goals, and the nature of the problem you want to address. Today, more and more cosmetic surgeons use fractionated lasers that remove only part of the skin in the treatment area. This allows the laser to safely penetrate the deeper layers of the skin for more dramatic results with minimal waiting time.

Non-ablative lasers

Some lasers do not break the skin's surface; these are called non-ablative lasers. Instead, they work by heating the skin below the surface to stimulate new collagen growth and help restore the skin's natural firmness and tone. While working more gradually than ablative lasers, these treatments generally do not require downtime and can have permanent results to rejuvenate the appearance. The improvements possible with laser resurfacing are long lasting. It takes several months for the full effects of new skin cell and collagen growth to take shape, and it may take several weeks for the post-residue effects of the treatment to subside, such as skin that appears pink at the treatment site. However, since every patient is different from each other, post-treatment effects may not be seen at all, or it may take a few weeks. At this point, your cosmetic surgeon will help you find out what kind of results you can expect from different laser resurfacing treatment options.

Chemical Peeling

Another way to resurface the skin is to apply a chemical solution that causes the outer layers of the skin to peel off. This is what cosmetic surgeons call chemical peels. Chemical peels are usually made in the cosmetic surgeon's office by a cosmetic surgeon or a specially trained aesthetician or nurse. During the treatment, a solution is brushed or rubbed into your skin, where it stays for a certain time. In the days following the treatment, the affected skin layers are gradually peeled off, revealing a smoother, younger-looking skin.

How can chemical peeling help to improve my skin?

  • It can provide a smooth skin by removing fine lines and wrinkles on the skin surface
  • It can minimize or remove deeper scars such as injury or surgery scars as well as lighter scars such as acne scars
  • It can tighten, tone or brighten the skin
  • It can remove keratosis or precancerous growth

Depending on the treatment, a peeling is usually classified as light, medium, or deep. This refers to how many layers of skin are removed. Light chemical peels will typically reach the epidermis partially and use a lighter acid solution such as glycolic acid, alpha hydroxy acid (AHA), salicylic acid, fruit enzymes, or low concentration trichloroacetic acid (TCA). Light peels can be applied safely by a trained, experienced aesthetician under the supervision of a cosmetic surgeon and typically cause little or no breakouts. Deeper peels can reach the epidermis and even the dermis, which is the next layer, and can address and resolve more advanced signs of aging such as deeper wrinkles, extensive sun damage or severe acne scars. Examples include phenol peels, stronger TCA peels, and croton oils. Although medium to deep peels produce more dramatic improvements, they may require more treatment sessions. Anesthesia may be required to keep a patient comfortable during treatment, and several days of downtime is required for the skin to heal optimally. Your cosmetic surgeon will recommend a peeling based on your skin type, depending on the specific problems you want to address and how deep the treatment should work to achieve the desired results. After the initial recovery period following a chemical peel, some improvements will be immediately noticeable: brighter, firmer-feeling skin and a more even skin tone. However, the effects of a peeling are cumulative, and many patients find think that treatments should be periodically repeated in order to get optimal results.

Microdermabrasion and dermabrasion

These skin resurfacing treatments involve mechanical exfoliation using a tool to remove the outer layers of the skin which removes visible skin damage and reveal smoother, healthier and younger looking skin. Such treatments include microdermabrasion and dermabrasion. Despite having similar names, each of these treatments work quite differently.

Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is a relatively gentle procedure that can be used on the face, neck, hands or body. During treatment, the area is exfoliated using a very fine-tipped tool or by applying a fine mist of abrasive particles. The exfoliated skin is then vacuumed immediately. Unlike some other resurfacing treatments, microdermabrasion is safe for all skin types, has little risk of side effects and requires no downtime.

What can microdermabrasion do to improve the skin?

  • Can minimize fine lines and wrinkles
  • Can help skin care products work more effectively
  • Can brighten the skin and improve skin tone
  • Can reduce age spots and mild acne scars

Microdermabrasion can be done in the same sessions along with a peeling to improve results. While instant improvements are often noticeable, microdermabrasion treatments are often performed in a series to achieve optimum improvements. It is also important to protect the treated area from the sun, as the skin will be more susceptible to sun damage after microdermabrasion.

Dermabrasion

Dermabrasion is a more powerful mechanical resurfacing technique than microdermabrasion. During the treatment, the cosmetic surgeon will use a rapidly rotating instrument or blade to precisely remove skin from the area under treatment to the target layer to reach desired depth. As it reaches the skin's surface more deeply, dermabrasion can affect skin pigmentation and is therefore not recommended for all skin types. Typically, patients will receive a topical anesthetic or a local anesthesia for comfort during and after the procedure.

What can dermabrasion do to improve the skin?

It can minimize vertical lip lines, smile lines or other facial wrinkles and can remove acne scars and other scars. It can also smooth the skin and balance skin color. The purpose of dermabrasion is to remove sufficient skin layers to address visible concerns and stimulate new cell growth. Therefore, the area will be fragile and "raw" after treatment. It is important to follow your cosmetic surgeon's instructions to protect the area well from the sun and keep the skin free from infection. Under the supervision of a qualified, experienced cosmetic surgeon, skin resurfacing treatments can reverse the visible effects of aging to significantly improve the patient's appearance.

Microneedling

Microneedling is a skin renewal technology that uses the skin's natural healing process to reduce skin imperfections, treat sun damage, and provide smoother, clearer skin. Microneedling creates microscopic "injuries" on the skin, rather than removing skin layers with heat or chemicals using a tool containing dozens of very thin, short needles. “Injuries” are invisible to the naked eye, but trigger the natural healing response, prompting your skin to regenerate new healthy skin cells along with the production of new collagen and elastin.

What skin concerns can microneedles treat?

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Acne or surgical scars
  • Large pore size
  • Sun damage, age spots and hyperpigmentation
  • Skin crack
  • Rough patches and tissue problems

Since microneedles do not clean skin layers with chemicals or lasers, it is generally safe for all skin types, even darker skin. Additionally, microneedling does not require downtime for most patients and does not require a post-treatment “peeling” period. However, the results may not be as dramatic as with more aggressive treatments, and multiple microneedle treatments are often needed to treat specific skin concerns in one area.

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light)

Intense pulsed light, or IPL, is a treatment similar to laser resurfacing because it uses light to treat skin problems, especially pigmentation problems, and rejuvenate the skin. However, instead of a highly focused, single wavelength laser, IPL uses a wide spectrum of light wavelengths delivered in short pulses. This light helps the skin in two ways. First, the wavelengths in the IPL absorb excess pigment (reds and browns) in the skin to provide a more even skin color. To a lesser degree, IPL stimulates collagen production to improve overall skin tone. IPL is a non-ablative treatment (no skin is removed during treatment) and typically requires little or no downtime.

What skin concerns can IPL treat?

  • Sun damage
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Age spots and freckles
  • Spider veins
  • Redness and rosacea
  • Vascular lesions
  • Tissue problems
  • Fine lines

It is marketed under many different names, including IPL, BBL (broadband light), photo facial and photo rejuvenation. Although these treatments may slight differ from the others, they all use wide wavelength intense pulsed light technology.
